It truly is like hearing the music for the first time. Besides protecting the capacitor, it was chosen for the most neutral resonant properties. I’m literally hearing lots of detail that was absent before. The end-fill material is also a secret component of perfect sound. It is so close to perfect now sweet and musical, but not soft or euphonic. If this DAC actually gets better as it burns in I can’t imagine being any happier with the sound. I won’t be selling my turntable any time soon, but Redbook CD has no business sounding this good. I’ve been chasing the elusive perfect sound and found vinyl playback to offer the most engaging balance of qualities… until now.ĭon’t get me wrong. I simply didn’t know that digital playback could sound like this. I have been at this “hobby” for about 30 years and can honestly say I have never experienced an improvement this profound. Then I struggled to come up with words to describe the quality of that music. All Right! Music is coming out of my speakers on the first try. After the initial test CD check all looked OK so I connected the balanced outputs to my preamp. I finally finished the DAC 4.1 LE and installed it Friday evening.

”I’m considering using a spacer between the pc board and the cap giving enough room for the leads to bend enough to fit the board. It’s not conductive and adds that next level of OCD attention to the details 😊 That’s ok, just use a product like Soundcoat vibration damping sheets, with adhesive on one side, cut a small piece or two to fit between the cap and board. If the cap fits over the solder pads with no need to angle, the lead outs will not allow you to seat the cap perfectly flush on the board. Or use tinned copper, solid core conductors as used on most film caps. You can thin the lead outs before applying the heat shrink to prevent oxidation. The lead outs should be the proper gauge, solid core copper, to fit inside the solder pads. Be sure to keep these lead outs as short as possible and place heat shrink over the lead outs between the cap and the board to prevent any possibility of a short. because measurable distortion is generated in. The capacitor should be at least 1600uF for 50R headphones. for coupling the amp to my 50 ohm headphones.
Solder leads to the cap that are long enough for you to mount it at whatever angle etc… you need. stellarelephant said: I did some extensive output cap rolling in a quest to find the best-sounding electrolytic caps.
